INTRODUCTION
TO PSYCHOTHERAPY &
THE TREATMENT RELATIONSHIP FROM AN
INTEGRATIVE PERSPECTIVE

A Psychotherapy Curriculum Combining Neuroscience & Traditional Psychotherapeutic Understanding

For Residents and Other Beginners

Welcome to our online resource dedicated to teaching an integrative psychotherapy curriculum to psychiatric residents early in their training.

This innovative curriculum is offered as a guide for faculty teaching psychiatry residents the foundational skills needed to develop a therapeutic relationship in all clinical care settings.

Rather than taking the traditional path of teaching specific psychotherapy approaches, this curriculum focuses on the therapeutic elements common to all effective psychotherapies.

With this resource as a guide, we hope that faculty will be prepared to teach residents how to develop a therapeutic relationship in which understanding and empathic engagement become the basis for therapeutic change.

While this approach can be useful for psychotherapy training in all disciplines, this particular curriculum integrates our understanding of the neurobiology of emotional distress and healing with the parallel experience of the process of psychotherapy.
